Hi. My name is Meg. I’m mom to my curious little girl, Holden, and my handsome little man, Gatsby (I was an English major).

oh, bother. was created out of my struggle as a working mom in a Pinterest world. I’m a DIYer wannabe and creative design appreciator, but I usually find myself falling a bit short in the execution. You’ll see.

"Doll in the Hall" October

"Doll in the Hall" October

Perhaps you’ve seen this meme making the rounds on social media:

Hey Parents, instead of an Elf on the Shelf in December, let’s do “A Doll in the Hall” in October. You take a creepy porcelain doll that your kids already believe is haunted and keep secretly moving it around the house. For an extra festive TOUCH, put the doll right in bed with one of the kids too!

This post was shared with me at least a half dozen times, not only because I have 1) publicly expressed my loathing and inability to participate in Elf on the Shelf but 2) we actually own a “haunted” doll.

That’s right. My weirdo daughter became obsessed with Anabelle and haunted dolls after seeing some YouTube videos and I decided to indulge her.

You can actually find allegedly haunted dolls on ebay… and that’s where we found Valeria.

Valeria the Haunted Doll - A Doll in the Hall October

Here’s Valeria’s backstory, per the ebay seller, fayetality.

Valeria passed away at the age of 29. She was going for a walk, as she loved to do every day at sunset. Waiting to cross a rather busy street, a small child darted ahead into oncoming traffic. Valeria did not even think about it as her body swiftly moved, pushing the child out of the way of the oncoming vehicles. Valeria saved the child, but she herself was struck, hard. Valeria did not survive her injuries.

Valeria does not regret her decision. She has repeated that she would do it again in a heartbeat.

Valeria’s doll vessel is 20 inches tall, so she is quite tall. She is made of porcelain and cloth. Valeria is even prettier in person. There is such a quiet yet commanding elegance to her beauty, from the way her hands are positioned as though at her hips, to her rather sophisticated attire.

She has very unique legs. They seem to be of black porcelain, and she has black boots, as you can see. She is on the heavier, sturdier side. She truly chose a unique vessel, also including her umbrella that has a metal base she holds.

Please be prepared for paranormal activity if you decide to adopt Valeria. She is an active, enthusiastic spirit, and her energy is palpable. She would absolutely never create danger or negativity, so never fear. In fact, Valeria does quite the opposite. With her white light energy, she protects. Valeria considers herself to be a guardian. She watches over everyone in the home. Valeria ensures that darkness is kept out, including dark thoughts, experiences, and entities as well. Valeria brings light. She protected that child, and as a spirit, she continues to protect.

Can you feel her calling to you? She is ready to be the protector of a new home.

~Valeria communicates via spirit board, pendulum, EVP, spirit dice, automatic writing, and dream walking.

~She creates EMF fluctuation. I have included pictures showing this.

~Valeria reveals her presence in the form of a dazzling golden orb. It dances about her vessel at sunset.

~We hear Valeria whispering and laughing softly (it sounds muffled, honestly).

~She is a very friendly spirit, loving to make friends with everyone that she encounters. People of all ages, pets, other spirits—Valeria loves everyone. And they cannot help but feel the same way for her. My dog is especially fond of her, and children love her so.

~Valeria moves her vessel, moves small objects, and we have witnessed her suspending our car keys in the air, wavering. She loves to do this, and clink objects. You’ll hear soft clinking of random objects. Valeria always takes credit.

~She loves it when you light candles for her & talk to her. Valeria is fond of company & compliments.

~We have noticed Valeria’s facial expression changing, her beautiful brown eyes shifting, brightening to more of an almost orange color. She is so expressive, and it is hard to look away.

~Just some more examples of activity experienced with Valeria: the sudden smell of lavender, loud footsteps outside of your bedroom at night, flickering the lights. She also has a tendency to open doors. I was using the bathroom the other day. I know I closed my door. I looked over, and watched it slowly open on its own. Valeria confirmed this was her. She will drain batteries too, and knock on windows.

If you find yourself feeling drawn to Valeria, she is reaching out to you.

I am only parting ways with sweet Valeria as she has communicated to me that it is time for her to move on and assist someone new. She looks forward to exploring a new environment.

If you choose to adopt Valeria into your life, please understand something of great importance—spirits like her do not always reveal themselves immediately. You need to give her time and space. Sometimes it happens right away, but it’s quite rare. More often than not, a spirit needs months to feel comfortable enough to begin showing activity. It also depends on YOUR own experience with the paranormal at times. I have had clients that have experienced it right away, yes, but usually I’ll hear from them a month, or even 6 months later that things are happening finally.

I cannot stress it enough... Give spirits time. Give them space. Remain open minded and you will be amazed.
[By the way, I wrote this. I’ve noticed many other sellers on eBay literally copied and pasted this from me, along with other things. Just letting everyone know. :) ]

Since welcoming Valeria into our home in February 2019, we have not noticed any “activity.” But Holden takes her very seriously and talks to her and is very hopeful that her spirit will reveal itself.
